The Art of Mending – October 28th

$75.00 $65.00

Sunday, October 28th
from 11:30 – 1:30

In this class, we’ll learn the basics of boro stitching and repair! Students are welcome (but not required!) to bring in their own fabrics, garments or accessories that need mending- everything else will be provided! Students will learn while working on a small project, then moving onto a larger 18”x18” quilted piece (unless you’d rather work on your own project).

Boro refers to the Japanese art of mending textiles through patching. Boro means something tattered or repaired, and in this technique, many different fabrics are patched many times giving a less structured effect. Traditionally used to reinforce points of wear, or to repair worn places or tears with patches, this running technique is often used for purely decorative purposes in quilting and embroidery.

All materials are provided.
All materials are included, but feel free to bring your own fabrics, or even garments and accessories that need mending!

Small class size.
Max enrollment is limited to 12 students per session, so register while there’s still room!

About our teacher:
Rajni Kavula is the artist and maker behind Adroit’s beautiful Indigo-dyed clothing and accessories, which you might have seen here at the shop. She has a degree in fine arts, and started her handmade journey with crochet, then later hand dyeing, though she is always learning and experimenting with new techniques. She mostly works with natural fabrics like linen, rayon, silk, and cotton yarn, as sustainable living is so very important in times like these. Rajni also teaches our Fiber Jewelry and Indigo classes- learning new techniques has been such a wonderful experience for her, and she hopes to pass on that joy to her students!

Please register in advance, as that helps our teacher prepare, and also helps prevent class cancelation. This class needs at least 5 students enrolled to run- if we don’t get enough sign ups, the class may be canceled and 100% of your class fees refunded (unless you’d rather apply your payment towards another class). In the event of class cancelation, we’ll give you at least 36 hours notice. Thanks for understanding!
